Who We Are

The nutrition team at CK Public Health includes Public Health Nutritionists and Public Health Dietitians registered with the College of Dietitians of Ontario. They work with community partners to promote nutrition using a health equity approach that focuses on advocacy, planning and strategies to:

  • Support community partners in creating supportive food environments
  • Build awareness, knowledge and skills for nutrition and food
  • Advocate for public health policies that promotes nutrition over the lifespan
  • Promote weight inclusive approaches


What Do We Offer?

CK Public Health offers consultation, training and resources to community partners. The following services include:


Childcare Centres

Childcare & Early Years Act

Staff provide support to childcare providers in planning and preparing foods to meet the food and drink requirements set out in the Child Care and Early Years Act: section 42 of Ont. Reg. 137/15.

Programs

Student Nutrition Program

The CK Student Nutrition Program (CKSNP) is universal and available to all students. The program provides access to food at either a breakfast or snack, so that students can have adequate nourishment to prepare them for learning. In partnership with local, provincial and federal governments, community organizations, volunteers and educators; CKSNP is available in schools with over 10,000 students registered for the program.

You're the Chef

You're the Chef (YTC) is a hands-on cooking program that teaches basic cooking and food handling skills. It helps to build food literacy of students in grades 5-8. Training is available for school staff who are interested in running the program in their school.

School Garden Program

CK Public Health supports schools with establishing or expanding school gardens.  Gardens increase students' knowledge of food, promote practical outdoor education and engagement in school. Grant applications are sent to schools in April.

Local Food Programs
