Land Acknowledgement

The land that CK Public Health is situated on and provides services is in the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy: the Odawa, Potawatomi, and Ojibwe. The land was settled through Treaty #2, the McKee Purchase Treaty of 1970. Our neighbouring First Nations are the Lunaapeew at Delaware Nation which is part of the McKee Purchase Treaty, and the unceded territory of the Bkejwanong Walpole Island First Nation.

At CK Public Health, we recognize that when settlers came to this land, they created a legacy of inequities that have, and continue, to impact the health and well-being of Indigenous People. We acknowledge the importance of the land and environment in establishing and sustaining optimal health, and we will strive to respect this land as we undertake our work.

We encourage our staff and community to support the work of reconciliation and we commit to making our services culturally appropriate and safe for all Indigenous Peoples, their families, and communities.

This acknowledgement is the first step in our ongoing commitment to reconciliation.
